How La Mior tripled monthly revenue at 4.2x ROAS with educational UGC.
A vegan cosmetics brand whose biggest obstacle was not competition. It was that most of the market did not know what "vegan cosmetic" actually meant.
Background
La Mior entered the Indian beauty market with a product that was, objectively, better than most of what it competed against — and a positioning that almost nobody understood. Vegan cosmetics were a Western category import, and the Indian consumer's mental model for the word "vegan" had nothing to do with skincare.
This is the hardest kind of marketing problem: not persuading someone to choose you over a competitor, but persuading them that your category exists and matters.
The challenge
Challenge
La Mior sold a genuinely differentiated vegan cosmetic line into a market that did not understand the category. Shoppers heard "vegan" and assumed it meant either expensive, ineffective, or both. Conversion rates on cold traffic were under 0.6%, and the brand was burning budget educating an audience their creative was not equipped to teach.
Their existing creative had made the classic error of assuming category knowledge. Ads led with "100% vegan" as though it were a self-evident benefit. To a shopper who did not know what animal-derived ingredients were in her current moisturiser, it was not a benefit. It was noise.
Our approach
Solution
We abandoned conversion-first creative entirely for the first two weeks and produced educational UGC instead. Creators demonstrated the gel-to-oil texture transformation on camera, walked through the ingredient list, and compared results against conventional products they had used previously. Only once the awareness layer was warm did we introduce testimonial and conversion creative to retarget those viewers.
Sequencing over stacking
Most brands run awareness and conversion creative simultaneously into the same audiences and wonder why neither performs. We sequenced. Weeks one and two ran educational UGC exclusively into cold traffic, optimised for video view-through rather than purchase. Weeks three through six retargeted those viewers with testimonial and conversion creative.
The texture hook
La Mior's gel-to-oil formulation had an unusual physical property: it visibly transformed on contact with skin. Nobody had thought to film it. We built four creatives entirely around that transformation, shot in close-up on a creator's hand. Those four carried the campaign.
Ingredient transparency as creative
Rather than claiming clean ingredients, creators read the label aloud on camera and explained what each component did. It should not work — reading a label into a phone is not cinema — and it converted at a rate that reset our assumptions about how much information a beauty consumer will absorb in a thirty-second video.
Results
Result
Across 45 days the layered sequence returned 4.2x on ad spend and tripled La Mior's monthly direct-to-consumer revenue. Critically, the awareness-stage creative did not convert directly — and was never expected to. It made the conversion creative possible.
The awareness creative recorded a 0.9% conversion rate viewed in isolation, which any media buyer would call a failure. Viewed as the first step in a sequence, it was the reason the retargeting creative converted at 4.8%. Measuring creative in isolation is how good campaigns get killed.
The takeaway
When your product requires category education, conversion-first creative is not aggressive. It is premature. The market has to understand what you are before it can decide whether it wants you.
